Working from Home: Attorney Jonathan Kinsella’s “New Normal”

Working from Home: Attorney Jonathan Kinsella’s “New Normal”
|

Attorney Jonathan KinsellaOur dedicated legal professionals at HKH Elder Law know that the COVID-19 pandemic has people everywhere navigating uncharted waters. And while much of what’s going on is unknown, I still take the commitment that I made to serve the needs of our clients very seriously.

As a husband to my wife, Laurie, and father of four children, I had been wondering what it would be like to work from home. But, knowing how busy our law firm is, I never thought I could do it. Then came COVID-19, and to ensure the health and safety of our staff and clients, we decided we needed to go remote to continue serving the legal needs of the community.

On Monday, March 16th, I moved all of the work from our firm’s office to my house. Let me tell you about my experience of working at home so far:

Making a Workspace

I found a quiet area of the house to set up my workstation. My wonderful wife has been very supportive as we make adjustments to our new “short-term normal.” My four kids, ages 12, 10, 4, and 2 months, have been nothing short of perfect. They each enjoyed a safe “stay at home” spring break and are making the adjustment to having Dad home! The biggest challenge my wife and I have had is figuring out how to keep four kids quiet and entertained at home while Dad works during their spring break. It hasn’t been easy, but we are making the adjustments together.

Schooling & Extra Family Time

This week, my older boys started their new virtual learning experience at home. So far, they seem to be enjoying it. Our family is blessed to have each other during this uncertain time, and we are grateful to have the space we need to each work quietly in our own area of the house. And do you know what the best part about our new arrangement is? I get to have a lunch date with my wonderful wife every day!

Providing Reliable Legal Services When Clients Needs Us Most

When our office made the decision to work remotely, we weren’t exactly sure how it would work. We just knew we had no choice. And guess what? It’s working out just fine!

Our clients have adjusted to our virtual services very well, which we couldn’t appreciate more. Teleconferences and video conferences are working great! We’ve been very successful in our efforts to serve our clients’ needs remotely and they have been patient with us as we make minor adjustments.

As a team, we meet via video conference once or twice a day. On top of that, we are continuing to take the time to get our work done. In fact, I feel like I’ve been more productive working at home!
